Now to make millions from
hosting seminars there are some key things one must know and I think the most
important of them all is your audience. They are the key to the millions you
want to make believe me don’t ever underestimate this group of people, they are
your customers without them your seminar will be a flop, so how do we make the
best out of this set of people---the audience.
In seminars the host can do a
lot with his/her audience
1. Get them to sleep
2. Get them inspired
3. Get them hopelessly
confused.
In short they do a lot of good
and bad unknowing depending on their capacity, be you whoever if you don’t know
the etiquettes of making a resounding presentation you are going to a lot of
rubbish and guess what that leads to massive failure and frustration.
So let’s find out how to make a
well-organized speeches and presentation in our seminars that will make your
audience listen and respond positive on your side ofcourse negative response
leads to frustration on your part and theirs ultimately.
SOME
NEGATIVE CATEGORIES OF AUDIENCES
1.
Passive Audience
This category of audience can
be year inactive and uninvolved in whatever that is going on why do they became
like this simple because the topic of your discussion is not motivating or
captivating enough so became dulled and passive.
2.
Competitive Audience
This category of audience only
wants to feel what you have to say, they feel competitive with the speaker
especially if they know a little about the topic to be presented, they are like
who are you to tell me what to do, who do you know that I don’t already know,
what do you know that I don’t already know so this type of audience don’t
easily pay good attention to the speaker
3.
Anonymous Audience
You as the speaker are
instantly visible, in fact you are listed in the program or at least you were
introduced. This type of audience may also feel distinguished or at least competent
but know that to you the speaker we are only a sea of faces. Anonymous
listeners or audience rather than the individuals we pride in ourselves in
being.
4.
Resistant Audience
This is also a fantastic
category of audience from the same resistant you should know this category of
audience try all possible best to resist your speech, why simply because they
feel being manipulated.
The common outgrowth of feeling
manipulated is to draw the line.
Don’t tell me what to do is as
old a response as the first time we disobeyed a parent. There is not only a
natural tendency to resist a sales person for the sheer feeling of strength,
smarts, or personal integrity it gives us; we also due to our ad happy culture,
very sales-shrewd and vendor suspicious this days.
Whenever a new idea is
presented or an in-depth, detailed, or alternative version of an old idea we as
the audience are challenged to rise to the occasion and understand it.
Especially since you the speaker already and obviously does. But people learn
at different rates and come to such a table with different skills and different
level of comprehension. Therefore the act of being in an audience trying to
understand can be threatening .Especially since, very often , it’s material we
need and want to understand.
5.
Disfrananchised Audience
Audience membership puts some
audience in a receiving mode when we have been quite accustomed to running our
lives and being a teller or activator. This makes some audience feel that
they’ve lost their turf .It’s hard to si back and watch someone else just take
over.
6.
Put Upon Audience
Often presentations are either
gratuitous, useful for the teller or foisted upon an audience because this is
good for you.
Audiences are not in charge of
either the subject or the length and manner of presentation.
This can create
resentment especially if the speaker is not impressive.
7.
Manipulated Audience
Since most seminars either
large or small, cast the speaker as the champion of the cause, the vendor of an
idea or someone who wants the audience to do, think or agree with something,
audiences have the natural tendency to see themselves as being manipulated.
They see the speakers as doing something to them not in a wholesome and open
minded state.
8.
Bonded
Because we are all together in the same place at the same time, sharing that special experience some people who are not comfortable becomes disconnected from each other. Singling anyone of us out can make the whole audience feel affiliated with and protective of that person. (Just watch the TV game shows if you doubt this.)
Now
let’s add the physical realities of sitting in an audience to the emotional
responses and consider the effects they could have;
a. How hard are the chairs
b. How long have they been already there
c. What else has gone before?
d. Is it hot or cold
e. Can they see or hear clearly?
f. Are they hungry?
All the above affects the
receptivity of your audience. Using them as guidelines let us move to phase one
of making a good speech.
